 Fasting Ashoura’:
Many of our students are fasting today and tomorrow to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in fasting Ashoura’. We ask you to join us in commemorating this important Hijri date in the history of Muslims.

.

 Book Fair
We have started our Reading Race to see who from each class will do the most reading in these 3 weeks. This race includes preschoolers and kindergarteners since you can read to them. Please make sure you initial the Reading Log for your child. Students can choose both Arabic and English books, but have to choose books from their reading level. Students have to bring in the Log at the beginning of the week so we can display their racing cars on the bulleting board.
We would also like you to consider bringing traveling items such as suitcases and maps to decorate the school.
PTO is requesting your help to make this event successful, so please respond to them.

  Yearbook Cover:
This year, our yearbook team members headed by Mrs. Ashkar-Nayfeh are designing the yearbook themselves. They have been collecting ideas and pictures, and have started meeting regularly.
This year’s yearbook cover will be designed by a student. The contest is open to all Alhuda students. Students should attempt to draw a picture representing the yearbook theme, “Above and Beyond.” Students should use an 8.5 by 11 blank paper, markers, and most importantly their great imagination. Drawings should be in portrait orientation. Due date has been extended to Wednesday, January 23, 2008.

 Survey:

Please keep sending your input about half-day preferences. Please be aware that if half-days are switched to Fridays next year, we will have to be strict about pick up time at 12:00. We will not allow for students to wait for their parents until Jumua, nor will we send them to prayer by themselves. Time after 12:00 will be spent in staff meetings. So please keep that in mind when we make the change.

  Ansaar:
Masha’Allah, our third graders were able to excite everyone about the food drive. They collected 330 lbs of food. Students from grades 6 and 7 enjoyed a pizza party yesterday because they collected the most.
The new Ansar for the month of Muharram are fourth graders.

  Box Tops:
The winner for the month of December is Ryanne Ramadan for bringing more box tops than any other student. Fifth graders will enjoy an ice cream party.

  Picture Retake:
It is scheduled for next Thursday. If you are not happy with your child’s picture and would like him to take another one, or if you missed last date, please let us know ahead of time.
